Born and raised in San Clemente, Dr. Herd is happy and proud to offer exceptional dental care for patients in his
community and beyond. He truly enjoys how dentistry is a combination of science, art, and customer service, as he has
the opportunity to improve people’s lives not only in functionality but also in aesthetics. He also loves
interacting with his patients and learning their stories while helping them on their oral health journeys. Read on to
learn more about Dr. Herd and his accomplishments!
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Herd considered himself a non-traditional student as he had a career in environmental waste remediation before
starting his journey toward dentistry. He desired more hands-on experience in his work as well as an occupation
where
he worked more closely with people while still being involved in science. After much contemplation, he discovered
that
dentistry checked all of those boxes, and the rest is history.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Herd graduated from St. Edwards University and Texas State University for his undergraduate degree. He later
went
on to study at the UT School of Dentistry in Houston for his dental doctorate. Today, he remains dedicated to
seeking
continuing education to further expand his expertise and skills. He’s received additional training in oral
cancer screening and diagnosis, digital and aesthetic dentistry, and implant restorations. He’s also
certified
in nitrous oxide and laser dentistry. Dr. Herd gained more experience by volunteering at Texas Missions for Mercy
and
El Centro Clinic and rotating at Healthcare for the Homeless.
Dr. Herd is currently a proud member of several professional organizations, such as the:
American Dental Association
Texas Dental Association
Academy of General Dentistry
Greater Houston Dental Society (attends meetings for the 9th District)
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Other than practicing dentistry and spending time with his family and loved ones, Dr. Herd really enjoys the
outdoors
and can be found doing things like backpacking, scuba diving, and hiking. He is also very passionate about his
Catholic faith and considers it the guiding principle of his life.
