“Say cheese!” If these two little words make you feel uncomfortable, then perhaps it’s time to do something about your smile. Teeth that are chipped, cracked and broken can make anyone reluctant to share a toothy grin. But it doesn’t have to be that way. With porcelain veneers, Pasadena dentists Drs. Holmes and Revel can transform your smile. Read on to find out more about porcelain veneers and the process involved in receiving them.

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Also called dental veneers or simply veneers, these cosmetic wonders are thin sheaths of fine dental porcelain (or sometimes composite resin materials) that are cemented to the facial side of teeth in your smile zone. Each one is individually designed, so that every tooth looks completely natural. Combined, your porcelain veneers create a complete smile that is attractive.

What can Veneers Correct?

Porcelain veneers can correct a number of different cosmetic imperfections in your smile. As mentioned above, veneers are perfect for covering teeth that are chipped, cracked or broken. In addition, they can also be used to cover stained or discolored teeth that are resistant to teeth whitening. If there are wide gaps in your smile, porcelain veneers can be used to close those gaps. And finally, teeth that are slightly misaligned can be made to look straight with dental veneers.

How do I get Porcelain Veneers?

The process for receiving porcelain veneers is rather straightforward. First, you’ll meet with either Dr. Holmes or Dr. Revel to discuss the changes and corrections you’d like to see in your smile. In addition, our dentists will need to examine your teeth and gums to make sure they are healthy enough to support veneers. Any underlying concerns such as tooth decay or gum disease will need to be taken care of before placing veneers. Then, with the aid of x-rays, photographs and impressions, our dentists will design your new smile.

To prepare your teeth for veneers, a small amount of enamel will be filed off of your teeth. This ensures a close and comfortable fit. While our dental lab fabricates your veneers, we’ll place temporaries on your teeth. Then, when the permanent veneers are ready, you’ll return to our office to have your new and beautiful smile cemented into place!
